If you’re paying attention, it feels like there’s a new food recall, contamination, deregulation, or disease outbreak every day. The US government has enacted budget cuts, staffing cuts, and deregulation that has hit every single one of the organizations meant to keep us safe and healthy. And they’re not done — just this week, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit recently ruled that clean drinking water is not a right. (As I’m writing this, a nearby, affluent neighborhood is under a boil advisory for E.coli in the town water supply.)
When it comes to food and disease safety, the United States has been largely abandoned by its government. But when there’s no one to look out for us, we have to look out for each other. I will try to keep this page updated weekly as new recalls are issued and others are terminated.
